kalin meets Rayburn in Ankara to discuss the latest developments in the Syrian issue
Turkish government spokesman Ibrahim Kalin met today, Wednesday, with the US special envoy for Syria, Joel Rayburn, to discuss issues of conflict in Syria, especially Idlib region.
During their meeting in Ankara, the two parties discussed the Syrian issue, the fight against terrorism, and regional issues. According to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency Office, the two parties discussed “the Syrian crisis, especially the Idlib region, the political process, the work of the Constitutional Committee, the issue of refugees and the fight against terrorism.
During the meeting, it was agreed on the need to support the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee to ensure lasting peace in Syria, create an environment for holding free and fair elections, guarantee the voluntary and safe return of refugees, and intensify joint efforts in this direction.
It was also emphasized that any political, economic and military support for “terrorist groups” in Syria was rejected, and that American interlocutors were informed that no separatist element that would jeopardize the territorial integrity and political unity of Syria should be included in the political process that will shape the future of Syria.
The statement stressed the importance of the role that Turkey plays in preventing migration and a new crisis, and the need for the international community to support Turkish efforts and maintain the March 5 ceasefire agreement in Idlib.
