The National Coalition welcomes the German efforts to punish those responsible for the chemical attacks in Syria
The National Coalition praised the efforts made by the German government to track and hold accountable those responsible for the use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people, since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in 2011.
The head of the Syrian coalition, Nasr al-Hariri, sent a letter to German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, in which he welcomed the statement made by members of the Security Council (Britain, Germany, Belgium, Estonia, and France, in addition to Ireland and Norway), in which they condemned the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons within the territories. Syrian.
Hariri called on the German government to continue to press for the implementation of Article 21 of Resolution 2118, which provides for the imposition of measures under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter in the event of non-compliance with this resolution, including the transfer of chemical weapons without permission, or the use of chemical weapons by anyone in Syria ”.
He stressed the need to support accountability measures against all perpetrators, including the higher authorities of the Assad regime leadership responsible for carrying out the attacks, as stated in the report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Hariri stressed the importance of the German commitment to support the cause of the Syrian people, noting the importance of reaching a political solution in Syria.
He also stressed the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions, foremost of which is Resolution 2254, to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people and help them overcome this difficult ordeal and build a state based on freedom, justice and good governance.
