Human Rights Watch: Syrian refugees in the Lebanese city of Arsal are living in difficult humanitarian conditions
The human rights monitoring organization, Human Rights Watch, said in a report, yesterday, Wednesday: “The Syrian refugees in the Lebanese city of Arsal, on the border with Syria, are living today in difficult humanitarian conditions, due to the harsh climate and its extreme cold.”
The organization added in its report: “The Syrian refugees in Arsal, Lebanon, do not have adequate structures to accommodate them during the harsh winter months, and they lack the basics of life.”
She explained that the refugees were forced to dismantle their tents in 2019 and move them from the region, “making their conditions worse than before,” as well as the outbreak of the Coronavirus, which increased the threat to their safety and lives at the same time.
The report indicated that the mold that formed on the wood used in their shelters caused health problems for children and their asthma, noting that “water seeps from under the eroded wooden walls.”
The organization stressed that Lebanon has imposed, in recent years, severe restrictions on the Syrian refugees, especially the curfew, and imposed on them sometimes to clean the streets, while their homes were subjected to raids that are not always justified.
