Japan announces $ 7.2 million in emergency aid for the displaced in Syria
Japan has decided to provide an emergency grant of $ 7.2 million to refugees and internally displaced persons facing a humanitarian crisis inside Syria.
The grant will be provided, according to what was published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, yesterday, Sunday, through the World Food Program, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
This assistance will be provided according to the plan set for it:
Food for approximately 480,000 people.
Non-food items for the winter season to about 5,400 children.
Improving access to safe drinking water and electricity for nearly 43,000 people.
Improving access to water and electricity by renovating water and hygiene facilities for 50 primary schools, 6 primary health care facilities, and 5 forensic facilities, in addition to providing medical equipment.
Medical and health services for nearly 7,000 people, by providing them
Winter home repairs package for about 2,600 people.
The Japanese government indicated that it would continue to work closely with the international community in order to settle the “Syrian crisis” by improving the humanitarian situation in Syria and pushing forward the political process sponsored by the United Nations.
