Response Coordinators: We have not lost control of the medical sector and the situation is still under control regarding Corona
The Syria Response Coordinators Group in the camps for the displaced called on all civil institutions and organizations working in the humanitarian field to intervene more than the current reality through financial and logistical support for organizations operating in northwestern Syria.
Muhammad Mahlaj, Director of Syria Response Coordinators for Fresh Online, said: “Approximately 1828 cases of Coronavirus were recorded in the camps out of the total number of infections in northwestern Syria, equivalent to 10.3%.”
He added: “We cannot yet say that we have lost control of the medical sector, and the situation is still under control with regard to the Corona virus.”
He explained: “The organizations should secure hygiene baskets on a regular basis, and secure water in proportion to the global consumption of the individual, in addition to reducing the number of camp residents.”
Al-Mahlaj indicated: “We expect a significant increase in the number of Coronavirus infections in the event that greater preventive measures are not taken in the liberated northern camps.”
He noted: “The problems facing the displaced in the camps are the unhealthy environment and the risks of pollution, especially in informal settlements, the spread of open sewage pits, the denial of basic sources of income and reliance on humanitarian aid only, and children stop studying and switch to a remote education system, which is something It cannot be achieved in all families with children during the education period, according to the team.
Earlier, the team called in a statement, the international community and international institutions based on humanitarian work in the region, to ensure urgent prevention, treatment and control over the spread of the virus within the camps, especially with the onset of winter.
