Turkey denies any new plans with the Assad regime

The Turkish presidential spokesperson, Ibrahim Kalin, announced yesterday that his country has no plans to establish new relationships with the Assad regime.

This announcement came in an interview with the Turkish media on the question of whether Ankara will establish relations with Damascus, pointing out to the Assad regime.

Kalin made it clear that there are currently no plans for political (diplomatic) contact with the Assad regime, pointing out that Turkey’s position toward Assad regime is clear.

Kalin said that the Turkish intelligence and those affiliated to the Assad regime are communicating with each other referring to the meetings between the Turkish intelligence chief, Hakan Fidan, with his Syrian counterpart Ali Mamlouk.

The Turkish presidential spokesperson had considered that it was not possible to conclude an agreement with the Assad regime to extradite the Syrian refugees, denying the existence of any political contact with the Assad regime.

He stressed, “Our intelligence units are negotiating for our national interests”.
