Canada intends to provide $12 million in humanitarian assistance for Syria

The Canadian International Development Ministry announced in a statement on Monday that Canada is intending to provide humanitarian aid to Syria worth $12 million to meet the urgent needs.

The Ministry confirmed in the statement Canada’s commitment to help the Syrian people, pointing out that the aforementioned funding will be spent on developing a number of sectors, including clean water, food, and hygiene services.

The Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, said that his country stands in solidarity with the Syrian people and the neighboring countries affected by the crisis, adding that it will continue the work to address the consequences of the Syrian crisis.

Syria is witnessing enormous challenges. After 14 years of the Assad regime’s war on the Syrians, Syria has become an arena for accumulated crises that require greater efforts from the international community, as millions suffer from a lack of food, water, and basic health services.

Syrians also face dire living conditions due to the collapse of the economy and the rise in poverty rates to unprecedented levels, as the Syrian people depend heavily on humanitarian aid, which increases the needs much greater than what has been provided so far
