Cholera cases have risen to 14 in northwestern Syria

The Early Warning and Epidemic Response Network (EWARN) said that the number of people infected with cholera has reached 14 cases in northwestern Syria.

The EWARN added that it recorded 5 new cases on Wednesday among 42 suspected cases of cholera throughout the region.

The EWARN explained in its daily report on Cholera outbreak in northwestern Syria that the 5 new cases were in Harem city in Idleb countryside (one case), and in Jarablus city in Aleppo countryside (4 cases).

The EWARN pointed out that cholera cases are continuing to rise in Jarablus region, and have begun to spread in Atma camps in Idleb countryside where one confirmed cholera case was recorded in al-Takaful camp.

The EWARN has stressed the need to follow cholera prevention measures, including “drinking sterile water, eating the food prepared in healthy ways, and following personal hygiene habits, especially washing hands properly.”

The EWARN made it clear that if “any symptoms of acute watery diarrhea with or without vomiting appear, you should visit the nearest health center to take the correct advice to deal with the disease and inform the Early Warning and Response Program for Epidemics (EWARN).”
