The Independent: The relationship between Moscow and Washington in Syria is based on coexistence
The “Arabiya” website said that the ongoing coexistence between the US and Russia in Syria is to avoid any possible military confrontation between the two parties, especially after the strained relations between the two countries over the Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The website quoted the head of the Middle East and Gulf military analyst, Riad Kahwaji, as saying that Washington and Moscow are not enemies, but they are competing for influence in Syria.
He stressed that the Russian leadership aims through its presence in Syria to protect Bashar al-Assad from downfall and secure a permanent exist on the Mediterranean, but Washington’s goals revolve around fighting the Islamic State and putting an end to Iranian expansion. Washington also seeks to protect oil and gas fields.
The political researcher Khattar Abu Diab considered that the coexistence between Washington and Moscow is based on a mutual agreement, and that the recent footage showing Russian and American soldiers in a “friendly” attitude is an insult to the Syrian people.
