Goldrich meets with the Syrian Democratic Forces to discuss common issues in northeastern Syria
The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Ethan Goldrich, and his accompanying delegation met on Sunday with the joint head of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Syrian Democratic Forces, Badran Jia Kurd.
Goldrich was accompanied during his visit by a specialized team in civil and humanitarian affairs, terrorism affairs, and the affairs of deporting foreign nationals, in northeastern Syria, according to a statement by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
The statement confirmed that the two sides discussed many files, including supporting the security and stability in the region, the conditions of the camps, the deportation of foreigners, and common challenges against “terrorism”.
Goldrich said during the meeting: “The United States is developing long-term plans to fight terrorism, whether in the camps or prisons, pointing out that they are working on a program specialized in the humanitarian aspect, and we have allocated a budget for the northeastern region of Syria.”
Kurd stressed that they are “cooperating with all countries that wish to return their nationals, and the international community must assume their responsibilities towards the members of the “Islamic State” organization and its families who are in the camps and prisons of the Syrian Democratic Forces.”
Human Rights Watch published last March figures for foreigners in the SDF area, where there are approximately 43,000 foreigners, including 27,500 minors, who are detained in many camps, including the “Al-Hol and Roj” camp.
