The former US envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, said in an interview on the Turkish channel (NTV) during his visit earlier this month that Turkey will not achieve anything if it meets the Assad regime.
Jeffrey made it clear concerning the recent Turkish rapprochement with the Assad regime that Turkey is a sovereign state that takes its military and diplomatic decisions to ensure peace, security and prosperity for the country, including its decision to dialogue with the president Bashar al-Assad.
Jeffrey pointed out that all those who met with the Assad in the past did not get anything, indicating that Ankara has many security concerns, including the refugees in Turkey and 4 million displaced people in the Idleb region.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said during a speech he delivered in the parliament on Monday that the Turkish intelligence service and the intelligence of the Assad regime have been communicating for a while, and if the Assad regime acts realistically, we are ready to work together to fight against terrorism, the political process and the return of the Syrians.
