Akar: The talks with the Assad regime took place with good intentions to bring peace to the region
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that the repeated talks with the Assad regime after an 11-year hiatus took place with good intentions, expressing his hope that the mutual meetings between Turkey and Syria would contribute to bring peace and stability to the region.
Akar told these statements to journalists following a meeting of the Turkish government on Monday. Akar made it clear that Turkey is seeking to find permanent solutions to the problems of terrorism and migration, expressing his hope that appropriate conditions could be created for the voluntary and safe return of Syrians to their country.
Akar stressed that Ankara has never taken any step that would harm the Syrian brothers living in Turkey or Syria and will not take any in the future.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested that a tripartite meeting between the foreign ministers of the three countries will be held soon.
The Turkish Defence Minister and his Russian and Syrian counterparts held a tripartite meeting in Moscow about two weeks ago.
