Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party responded to statements of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in which he accused Ankara of being an occupying force in Syria in light of the political normalization that is going on in Syria.
Justice and Development Party spokesperson Omer Celik said in a press conference that his country in not an occupying force in Syria, according to “TRT Haber” website.
Celik added that the first and real threat to the Syrian side is the terrorist organizations and not Turkey.
Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin confirmed on Sunday that “Turkey wants security on its borders, and that the Turkish army will never attack the Syrian state or Syrian civilians.”
It is noteworthy that Bashar al-Assad said during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in the capital, Damascus, that the process of normalization with Turkey will not progress until ending the “occupation” and halting support for “terrorist” organizations.
