Qatar calls Assad regime “unscrupulous” and condemns Duma’s chemical attack
Qatar expresses its full support for international efforts to hold the Assad regime accountable for its horrific crimes against the Syrian people.
The statement affirmed that the recent report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which concluded the responsibility of the Assad regime for the heinous attack on the city of Duma and again exposes to the world the ugly and brutality of this “unscrupulous regime”.
In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Assad regime continued to pursue a policy of horrific massacres, scorched land and destroyed cities, transcending all red lines imposed by morality and required by law.
The statement emphasized that a political solution in Syria would not lead to a successful and sustainable outcome without holding accountable those involved in such atrocious crimes.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said in a report on Friday that the Assad regime was responsible for the 2018 chemical attack against the city of Douma in eastern Ghouta.
The massacre is one of the most egregious crimes committed by the Assad regime over the past years, along with the eastern Ghouta massacre, which killed more than 1,400 martyrs, and the massacre of Khan Sheikhoun in rural Idlib.
