The Executive Director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme Mike Rainey said: “The devastating earthquake in Syria and Turkey has re-highlighted the Syrian crisis,”.
This came at his press conference in Dubai.
“Millions in Syria have been suffering for years in what has become a forgotten crisis.”
“We all have to recognize the magnitude of this disaster,” Rainey pointed out, stressing that it is “a very big disaster that exceeds everyone’s ability”.
Raine praised the Civil Defence, who had made intensive efforts during the search for survivors under the rubble with a lack of potential, while the possibility of finding living was gradually diminishing.
Since the devastating earthquake last Monday, no United Nations assistance has entered northwestern Syria, with the exception of two convoys consisting of only 20 vehicles in routine assistance, for an area of more than 4 million people.
