Syrian Civil Defense: earthquake death toll in northwestern Syria has risen to 2,274
Earthquake death toll in northwestern Syria, since its occurrence until last night, has risen to more than 2,274 while 12400 have been injured.
The Civil Defense said in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning that the statistic has been reported according to several medical authorities.
The Civil Defense confirmed that its teams responded to 2170 deaths and rescued 2950 injured people while the number is expected to rise with the ongoing search operations.
The Civil Defense pointed out in its latest statistics that 550 buildings were completely destroyed, while more than 1570 buildings were partially damaged throughout the areas struck by the earthquake, in addition to thousands of cracked buildings and houses in northwest Syria.
A deadly earthquake hit Syria at dawn on Monday, killing thousands of people and causing massive damage to the buildings. The Syrian Civil Defense teams continue search and rescue operations as rescuers face great obstacles and difficulties, coinciding with the shortage of capabilities and necessary mechanisms and equipment for rescuing people.
