Saudi Foreign Minister and Pedersen discuss via telephone “ways to solve the Syrian crisis”
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed a telephone call to “resolve the Syrian crisis.”
The agency revealed that the Saudi minister confirmed during the communication the Kingdom’s desire to support all efforts that would contribute to a political settlement in Syria that would preserve the unity and stability of the country.
The talks between Ben Farhan and Pedersen coincided with the arrival of Assad’s Foreign Minister in Saudi Arabia for the first time since 2011.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry announced yesterday the arrival of the Assad regime Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Jeddah, in response to the invitation of his counterpart Faisal bin Farhan.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, bin Farhan and Mekdad will examine many issues related to the Syrian issue, the most important of which are: “the return of Syrian refugees, securing the access of humanitarian assistance to the affected areas, and further discussing relations between Damascus and Riyadh.”
The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida revealed yesterday that Arab foreign ministers will meet tomorrow in Saudi Arabia to discuss the return of the Assad regime’s membership to the Arab University.
