The Arab foreign ministers are holding an emergency meeting in Cairo to discuss the Sudan crisis and readmitting Syria to the Arab League
The Arab foreign ministers are holding an emergency meeting in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, on Sunday to discuss the Sudanese crisis and restoring Assad regime to the Arab League.
Gamal Rushdy, the spokesman for the Arab League, said the participated ministers will take a decision regarding the suspension of Syria’s membership.
Rushdy confirmed that the meeting will discuss the outcomes of the previous mini-ministerial meetings held in Saudi Arabia and Jordan aiming to readmit Syria and inviting it to the Arab summit which is scheduled to be held in Riyadh,” according to Al-Arab Press Agency.
Rushdy pointed out that “there will not be a vote on Syria’ return to the Arab League, so the decision will be taken by consensus, adding that the ministers will also address the issue of the Sudan crisis and will discuss finding an effective role for the Arab countries to resolve the Sudanese crisis.
The Cairo meeting will be headed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, as his country currently holds the international presidency of the Council of the Arab League.
It is noteworthy that in mid-April, a meeting was held between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in Saudi Arabia, with the participation of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, to discuss the return of Syria’s membership to the Arab League.
