“The Wall Street Journal” Newspaper: Russia is getting ready to end its humanitarian agreements with UN
“The Wall Street Journal” newspaper affirmed in its report that Russia is ready to break away from humanitarian agreements with UN, including hindering humanitarian aid delivery through Turkey into Syria.
“The Wall Street Journal” newspaper added that UN’s approval on Assad regime’s proposal ends a decade of efforts to enter UN aid into northwest Syria without the need to Assad regime’s approval.
Analysts considered that Russia vetoed a resolution to extend life-saving aid delivery through Bab al-Hawa crossing in order to put pressure on the Western countries and other opponents. The analysts saw its unusual readiness for Putin to break away from humanitarian conventions with UN.
Western officials said: “Putin is preparing to end cooperation with the United Nations in all humanitarian areas.”
The officials added that Putin used the “veto” power in the Security Council to prevent the issue of a decisive resolution regarding aid delivery into Syria through the border crossings.
Russia voted against a resolution for 9-month extension of aid delivery through Bab al-Hawa crossing to Syria, after the expire of aid delivery mandate.
The remaining 13 Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution, which was drafted by Switzerland and Brazil, while China abstained.
The United Nations rejected to two “unacceptable conditions” placed by the Assad regime to permit aid access into Syria through Bab al-Hawa crossing.
