Stephane Dujarric: Humanitarian aid delivery via Bab al-Hawa border crossing has not resumed yet
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that humanitarian aid delivery into Syria through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing “has not yet resumed.”
Dujarric confirmed during a press conference that the humanitarian aid via Bab al-Hawa crossing is still suspended although the region is going through military escalation in northwestern Syria.
Dujarric added that the UN aid is now delivered into Syrian territories through Bab al-Salama and al-Raee border crossings with Turkey.
Dujarric referred to the United Nations’s efforts to implement the agreement that was reached with Assad regime to deliver aid through Bab al-Hawa crossing.
The United Nations announced on August 7 that it reached an understanding with the Assad regime to extend aid delivery mechanism for three months and to deliver aid through Sarmada and Saraqib cities over the next six months.
This announcement came after the UN Security Council failed on July 9 to determine cross-border humanitarian aid delivery mechanism into northern Syria because Russia used the veto power.
United Nations estimates that 15.3 million Syrians will need protection and humanitarian assistance during 2023.
