US airstrikes target Iran-linked facilities and sites in Syria

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin revealed carrying out two airstrikes targeting facilities of Iranian “Revolutionary Guard” and Iran-affiliated groups in Syria Sunday evening on November 12, 2023.

Austin said in press statements: “The two airstrikes targeted a training facility and a hideout between Albu Kamal and Deir Ezzor cities for a third time since last October 26.

The strikes were ordered by the president Joe Biden, in response to the constant attacks against US forces in Syria and Iraq.

Austin added that the strikes aimed to undermine the groups responsible for the attacks against US forces. He pointed out that the absolute priority for his country is the safety of US personnel, and it will defend its interests and personnel.

The two airstrikes killed 6 or 7 armed men affiliated to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria.

Local sources said that one of the strikes targeted a camp run by Iran west of Albu kamal, and the second one targeted a bridge close to al-Mayadeen city, near the Iraqi border.

The strikes came with the escalation of attacks in Syria and Iraq against US forces, which since the Gaza war have been attacked at least 40 times by Iranian-backed forces, and at least 45 US soldiers have been injured.
