UN adopts a resolution calling on Israel to withdraw from the occupied Golan
The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, 28, 2023, adopted a resolution calling on Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights, which it occupied in 1967.
91 UN General Assembly member states voted in favor of the resolution, while 8 states voted against, and 62 states abstained.
The resolution said: “We are extremely concerned that Israel has not withdrawn from the Syrian Golan, which has been occupied since 1967, contrary to the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly.”
The Second UN Committee (Economic and Financial) called on Israel, at the beginning of this month, to stop exploiting natural resources in the Palestinian territories and the occupied Syrian Golan.
The UN Committee affirmed the permanent sovereignty of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Israel previously announced the annexation of the Golan region in 1981, which the United Nations considers illegal, expressing its deep concern and opposition to this step.
