A survey warns against scabies outbreak in north-west Syria
The World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a comprehensive survey on the scabies in north-west Syria and so it concluded that the disease has widely spread in the region.
According to the survey, the camps in north-west Syria are seven times more likely to contract scabies. Six regions of displaced persons saw unusual high of people infected with scabies.
The survey pointed out that there are more than 4.2 million people, most of them are women and children, in the six regions in need of humanitarian assistance.
The survey made it clear that the crowded living conditions and the limited access to necessary treatment are directly increasing in the number of infections.
The WHO confirmed that the Director General of European Commission is pursing the situation in the region and exploring the available options to increase support for treatment in north-west Syria.
The WHO added that its partners in many fields provided comprehensive medicines for 155,965 people in 70 camps and seven local communities.
During the summer months of 2023, Doctors Without Borders organization recorded more than 5,700 scabies cases in IDP camps in the countryside of Idleb and Aleppo.
