The Syrian Negotiation Commission meets with Representative of the State of Qatar and Turkish Ambassador to the UN
A delegation from the Syrian Negotiation Commission held a meeting with the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif AL-Thani, and discussed the latest development regarding the Syrian issue.
The Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) said in a statement: “The head of the SNC, Badr Jamous, presented the latest developments of the Syrian political process, the changes of countries’ positions, and the efforts made by the SNC at the international level to advance the political solution, especially the Geneva statement and the two UN resolutions 2118 and 2254.”
Jamous stressed the need to find mechanisms to oblige Assad regime to stop evading the obligations imposed on it, and not to normalize relations with it, unless Assad takes clear and tangible steps towards a political solution.
The statement praised Qatar’s unwavering support for the legitimate demands of the Syrian people at the political, diplomatic and humanitarian level, emphasizing the importance of the continuing this support and its positive impact on the Syrians in general.
In the same context, the head of the SNC met with the Turkish Ambassador to the United Nations, Ahmed Yildiz, and discussed with him the latest developments in the political process at the Security Council level, the positions of countries at the regional level, especially the Turkish position regarding the political solution, issues that concern Syrians residing in Turkey, the necessity of Turkey continuing its positive dealings with the Syrians, and the importance of its unwavering position towards the political solution and international resolution 2254.
The Turkish ambassador stressed that Turkey stands with the Syrians in their legitimate demands for a peaceful political solution that ensures sustainable stability and security, and Turkey’s support for the political solutions stipulated in international resolutions.
He stressed that Turkey will always remain vigilant, and will put an end to any racist actions that some people may carry out against the Syrians.
For his part, Secretary of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Al-Suwaidi, said that his country welcomed the efforts made to cease the state of impunity and ensure the accountability of all those responsible for the violations committed against the Syrian people.
Al-Suwaidi’s statement came during the Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, at the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, where he stressed the importance of resuming the work of the Constitutional Committee and pressuring the Assad regime for effective and positive participation in supporting reaching a sustainable political solution and achieving justice and equity for all victims of violations.
