The Syrian Coalition: Negotiation Commission’s meetings aim to restore the international momentum to the Syrian issue

The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) announced in a statement that the Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) convened meetings with international politicians, diplomats and ambassadors, concentrating on the restoration of international momentum to the Syrian issue after it saw some lukewarm from some of the supporting countries.

SNC’s meetings came in coincidence with the meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York city.

The statement said: “SNC emphasized on the inevitability of advancing the political process in accordance with the international resolutions, especially Geneva Statement and UNSCR 2254.”

The statement added: “The countries must abide by their commitments to find binding mechanisms for all parties to implement the international resolutions in relevant with the Syrian issue without the possibility of evading as Assad regime has been doing for years.

SNC is continuing its international meetings during this month, and it is scheduled to hold meetings with high-level US and Turkish officials in Ankara. A delegation from the SNC’s presidency will also make a visit to the United States that will last for several days, including multiple meetings with representatives of countries at the United Nations during the meetings of the UN General Assembly.

The SNC had met with officials and diplomats from active countries, including the French envoy to Syria, Jean-François Girault, the director of the Syria Regional Platform at the US State Department, Nicholas Granger, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, and the head of the European Union mission to Syria, Mark Gerritsen.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian Negotiation Commission is intensely active at the European, regional and Arab levels, and at the level of international organizations concerned with security, peace and justice, in order to advance the political process for the liberation of the Syrians, their safe return, and their stability to build a modern Syria.
