Russia calls for normalization with the Assad regime and supporting it politically and economically
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu called for providing more political and economic support to the Assad regime and enhancing normalization processes with it at the Arab and regional levels.
This came at the conclusion of Shoigu’s visit to the UAE, where he met with President Mohammed bin Zayed and a number of senior officials there.
The Russian Security Council issued a statement on October 29, in which it confirmed that Shoigu discussed with the senior political leadership in the UAE the “difficult and extremely tense” situation in the Middle East, in addition to regional security issues.
The meetings also discussed in detail “the situation in Syria and the fight against terrorist groups, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the situation in Libya, and issues of interaction between the security services in Russia and the UAE.”
Shoigu welcomed the great efforts made by the UAE to help the Assad regime overcome the severe economic crisis, stressing the importance of continuing to integrate it into the regional environment.
Shoigu stressed “the continuation of the active reintegration of Syria into the regional environment, promoting the full return of this country to the Arab family, and stimulating investment from other Gulf countries in the Syrian economy.”
Shoigu previously visited Damascus on September 16, and met with Bashar al-Assad, and discussed with him “a group of files related to international and regional security,” and bilateral relations between the Assad regime and Russia and the prospects for strengthening them, according to SANA news agency.
