Regarding attacks on schools, the White Helmets in collaboration with Child Guardians organizations issued a report on the deliberate escalation on civilian infrastructure, including schools.
The report said: Targeting schools have become a prominent feature of the crisis in Syria, as the attacks have not only destroyed the infrastructure but also destroyed Syria’s future, and the years of conflict have left impacts that will extend across generations.”
The report added: “The education system suffers heavy pressure, as many facilities have partially or completely been destroyed which left a permanent scar for children.”
The report emphasized the need for providing a safe educational environment, pointing out that schools should be havens for growth and learning, not zones of fear.
According to the Syria Humanitarian Needs Overview 2024, there are more than 2.45 million children out of school across Syria.
According to the report, northwest Syria has the highest percentage, with 69% of children in Idleb out of school, and 38% of children in Aleppo, stressing that there are many motivating factors that may contribute to these alarming figures.
It is noteworthy that these ongoing attacks highlight the blatant disregard for international humanitarian law, which is exacerbated by the continued impunity associated with these grave violations
