“Moscow Platform” approves a document for a solution in Syria and criticizes the position of Western countries on the Assad regime
The “Moscow Platform” announced in a statement the approval of a document consisting of ten items, explaining its vision for a solution in Syria, including criticism of Western countries because of their position on the Assad regime and the sanctions imposed on it.
According to the statement, a meeting was held that included its old and new members, explaining that the meeting dealt with the current political situation in Syria, and resulted in the approval of a document entitled “Moscow Platform… Programmatic Topics.”
The document stressed that “the only solution in Syria is to implement UN Resolution 2254” through dialogue and direct negotiation between two qualified delegations from the Assad regime and the Syrian opposition.
The document emphasized “the struggle to restore the unity of Syria, end the state of division, and expel foreign forces, especially the Israeli army, from the Golan.”
The document also included that “the issue of the Syrian Democratic Forces is a national democratic issue par excellence, and its solution must take place within the general Syrian national framework, while establishing legitimate national rights in the constitution.”
The document considered that “the Zionists, war merchants, the internally and externally corruptors, and extremists from the Syrian parties” are “the direct enemies of the transition to a new Syria.”
The document criticized Western countries and their initiatives in Syria, such as “step by step” and “changing the behavior of the Assad regime,” considering that they aim to “prolong the crisis and obliterate Syria’s historical role in confronting Zionism.”
The document said that the sanctions imposed on the Assad regime “did not aim at any phase to overthrow the Assad regime, but rather aimed to weaken Syria and its people,” stressing that it is necessary to build a new system in Syria “based on a balanced relationship between centralization and decentralization.”
It is noteworthy that the “Moscow Platform” is a gathering that includes political figures and entities that adopt the Russian vision for the solution in Syria, which is based on re-floating Bashar al-Assad and his narrow circle within any future political solution.
