Cavusoglu: A letter from Macron to Erdogan asking him to meet
Yesterday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that French President Emmanuel Macron recently sent a “very positive” message to his Turkish counterpart, Rajab Tayyip Erdogan.
Çavuşolu told reporters, “The written message from Macron came two days ago, stressing that the French president stressed the importance of Turkey to Europe and expressed his desire to normalize relations with Ankara and meet Erdogan.”
Çavuşolu indicated that Erdogan, in turn, expressed his willingness to communicate with Macron in order to normalize relations, explaining that the talk is first of phone and video calls.
Earlier, strong-worded warnings were issued by Erdogan to Macron, and Erdogan’s standing in the face of hate speech and anti-Islam and anti-Muslim statements issued by Macron was the face of events in 2020.
Relations between Ankara and Paris have witnessed a sharp escalation in recent years, against the background of the emergence of differences between the two sides on various issues, including the conflicts in Syria, Libya, and the Karabakh region, and the excavations carried out by Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean, in addition to the position of the French government in support of the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
