International concern due to the torrential rains hitting refugee camps in northern Syria
The United Nations expressed its concern, today, Wednesday, after the rainstorms that hit the refugee camps in northern Syria, and increase their suffering and tragedy.
According to the UN News website, Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, said: “There are reports of more than 1,700 families in northwestern Syria affected by the floods, more than 200 tents destroyed and more than 1,400 tents damaged.”
Dujarric added that while specialized teams are documenting reports to assess the humanitarian situation, the tents of the displaced in northern Syria are exposed to new damages, which increases their suffering and tragedy.
He explained that the humanitarian workers (volunteer teams – humanitarian organizations), “distributed winter aid to 2.3 million people throughout Syria,” indicating that “these aid includes the necessary equipment to prevent colds (sleeping bags, winter clothes and heating fuel), and assistance In the repair and replacement of tents ”.
Regarding the deficiencies that the United Nations has not been able to complete so far, Dujarric said, “There is still a gap of 32 million dollars in financing these basic materials,” he said.
The torrential rains caused damage to several camps for the displaced Syrians, including: “Al-Kanju, Kafr Aruq, Al-Bash and other camps north of the governorate.”
