In exceptional circumstances, the US President-elect, Joe Biden, takes office today, Wednesday, officially as President of the United States of America.

The inauguration ceremony will be held in Washington, DC, at 12 noon local time (17:00 GMT), coinciding with intense security preparations in the American capital, Washington.

Thousands of National Guard troops were deployed in Washington, after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building – the seat of Parliament – on January 6, killing five people, as only a limited number would be allowed to attend the inauguration ceremony, Not hundreds of thousands, as usual.

Trump is considered one of the most prominent absentees, as he heads to Florida on Wednesday morning, to be the first president to avoid attending the inauguration of his successor, in nearly 150 years.
