Russian Foreign Ministry: American strikes in Syria may lead to a major conflict
On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the US air strikes, the first in the era of the new US President, Joe Biden, in Syria.
A Russian Foreign Ministry source said that Russia considered the strike “an unacceptable violation of international law.”
The First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Vladimir Jabarov, said that the US attack on Syria is “illegal”, as it is “the bombing of the territory of a sovereign state.”
The agency “Sputnik” quoted the Russian Senator, that Syria could appeal to the UN Security Council to request discussion of the situation in an emergency meeting.
The Russian official described targeting as “extremely dangerous” and could lead to an escalation of the situation in the entire region.
He added that such actions may lead to a “huge conflict,” adding, “Syria possesses modern weapons, including S-300 systems, and the Americans must be very careful in such actions.”
The United States launched its first military strikes, since the new American president took office, targeting sites in eastern Syria.
