Ned Price: Washington will continue the humanitarian response to the Syrians, regardless of where they live
US Secretary of State Ned Price said that the United States will continue the humanitarian response and advocacy for the delivery of aid to Syrians, regardless of where they live.
This came in a press conference by the US Secretary of State, in which he affirmed that to this end, the United States will work with the Security Council to renew and expand the mandate of the UN mechanism for cross-border aid entry.
Price indicated that the US ambassador to the Security Council, Linda Thomas Greenfield, announced during the last Brussels conference the provision of more than $ 596 million as new humanitarian aid to respond to the Syrian crisis.
Price added, “This support will help about 13 million Syrians who have been forced to leave their homes to escape the horrific effects of the Assad regime’s fierce campaign of unfair detention and violence.”
He stressed that “there is absolutely no reason for any country, including China or Russia, to stand in the way of providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, who have long suffered from brutal repression and violence by the Assad regime.”
In response to a question about whether the United States will work to deliver UN aid to the Rukban camp, Price said he does not want to preempt events, noting that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken recently focused on the priority of ensuring adequate humanitarian access, within the framework of the Security Council. This is because there is no viable alternative to meet the scope and scale of UN aid across the border to Syria.
The UN mechanism for cross-border aid entry into northwestern Syria regions is scheduled to expire next July.
