The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons: The Assad regime used chemical weapons in Saraqib city in 2018
The identification team of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons issued a report today, Monday, in which the Assad regime condemned the use of chlorine gas in one of its attacks on the city of Saraqib in Idlib countryside, in 2018.
The organization’s report stated, “On February 4, 2018, a helicopter belonging to the Assad regime bombed the eastern city of Saraqib with at least a chemical gas cylinder.”
The investigation and analysis conducted by the organization’s team included a comprehensive review of all the information obtained, in interviews with people who were present in the relevant places at the time of the accidents, analysis of samples and remnants collected at accident sites, and a review of symptoms reported by victims and medical staff and check pictures.
In May of 2018, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), in a statement, suggested that chlorine gas was used in an attack in Idlib, northern Syria, in February, and the organization wrote: “Chlorine gas may have been used in Saraqeb, in Idlib, northwestern Syria.”
On February 4, 2018, a helicopter belonging to the Assad regime targeted two barrels containing poisonous chlorine gas the eastern neighborhood of Saraqib city in Idlib countryside, leaving 11 injured civilians, including 3 civil defense personnel.
