A Russian-Iranian operations room to secure oil supplies for the Assad regime
The Russian agency, Sputnik, revealed the establishment of a Russian-Iranian operations room, with the aim of securing a safe and stable flow of oil supplies, wheat and some other materials to the Assad regime.
The agency indicated, quoting unnamed sources, to intensive meetings held during the past period, which included representatives from Russia, Iran and the Assad regime, with the aim of breaking the US-European blockade imposed on the Assad regime.
The sources stated that the Chamber’s work is to secure multi-sided coordination to secure the arrival of oil needs, in the first place, to the Syrian ports, especially after the largest fuel crisis witnessed by the Assad regime in many decades.
The sources revealed that the approved mechanism provides for Russian warships to escort Iranian oil tankers coming to Syria, as soon as they reach the Mediterranean gate of the Suez Canal, and until they reach the Syrian territorial waters, with the aim of protecting them from piracy or any targeting of a different nature.
The sources detailed the mechanism of operation of ships carrying crude oil, and stated that oil will continue to be supplied during the coming period through the collection of a number of Iranian ships and sending them to Syria in a single batch, provided that the Russian naval fleet in the Mediterranean takes over the safety of their access to the Syrian supplies continuously until The end of this year at the very least.
The sources pointed out that the new mechanism has, during the past few days, ensured the arrival of four Iranian tankers that were escorted by Russian warships, which were carrying crude oil in addition to natural gas.
The sources noted that a number of ships will arrive in succession to the Assad regime, preferring not to determine their source in order not to be targeted on the high seas.
Iran had sent four oil tankers carrying more than 3 million barrels of oil to the coastal city of Baniyas in Syria, according to the data of the International Ship Tracking System (Tanker Trackers), in light of the worsening fuel crisis in the areas under the control of the Assad regime.
