Qatari Foreign Minister stresses the importance of relations between his country and Iran
The Qatari Foreign Minister, Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, discussed with his Iranian counterpart Muhammad Jawad Zarif regional and international issues.
According to the Iranian news agency “IRNA”, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, on Sunday, that the two parties discussed in Doha issues of common interest between the two countries (which were not specified), at the regional and international levels.
The Iranian ambassador to Qatar, Hamid Reza Dehghani, said that Zarif’s visit to Doha comes within the framework of developing bilateral relations with Qatar.
He added that relations with Qatar and all the riparian countries of the Gulf are of great importance to Iran, according to the agency.
On Sunday, Zarif and an accompanying delegation began a visit to Iraq and Qatar, with the aim of expanding bilateral relations and holding discussions with senior officials in the two countries on regional and trans-regional issues, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
For his part, Zarif reviewed during the meeting the latest developments in relations between the two countries in various political and economic fields, describing the grounds and capacities available for developing relations between the two countries as “positive.”
Last month, Qatari Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani met in Tehran with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif, to discuss the possibility of re-engaging with the administration of US President Joe Biden.
Qatar has good relations with Iran, while other Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia, accuse Tehran of having an expansionist agenda in the region and interfering in the internal affairs of Arab countries, which Iran denies and says it is committed to good neighborly relations.
