The US embassy recalls the Assad regime’s attacks on Baniyas and Al-Bayda and pushes for accountability
Yesterday, Tuesday, the US embassy recalled, coincidentally, this week the eighth anniversary of the Assad regime’s attacks on the cities of Baniyas and Al-Bayda, which killed more than 150 civilians.
This came in a series of tweets published by the embassy, on its official website in Twitter, in which it stated that this week marks the eighth anniversary of the Assad regime’s attacks on the Baniyas and Al-Bayda regions in Syria.
She added that she still remembered those who lost their lives in those attacks and reiterated her commitment to standing with the survivors of the Assad regime’s atrocities and continuing to push for accountability.
Speaking about the Assad regime’s violations, the embassy noted that “human rights must be respected, and they must be at the forefront of efforts for a political solution in Syria.”
She indicated that the United States supports the efforts made by Syrian human rights defenders and the Syrian civil society, and is still pushing for accountability for those involved in committing war crimes in Syria.
The US State Department also stated that President-elect Joe Biden renewed the strong US commitment to refugees and humanitarian values, restructuring the refugee admission program that serves US security interests and ensures that the United States continues to be a beacon of hope around the world.
