Syrian and British personalities send a message to the British Foreign Secretary about aid to Syria
Western media sources said that several Syrian and British personalities sent a letter to the British Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, about the humanitarian situation in Syria, and demanded the need to extend the mechanism for bringing aid across the border.
The signatories of the letter said that the Assad regime and those close to it “continue to enrich themselves with rampant corruption and the exploitation of the war,” noting that “assigning the regime the task of delivering aid to Syrians who need it most is not an option.”
The signatories expressed their hope that the British government would continue to work with “like-minded” governments to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis in Syria, and stated that the best way to achieve this is to ensure the continued access of international humanitarian agencies across borders.
The signatories called on the British government to cooperate with its partners in the Security Council, to prepare necessary contingency plans to ensure the unrestricted access of humanitarian organizations of the United Nations, in the event that Russia and China obstruct the renewal of the mechanism for the entry of cross-border aid.
The letter stressed that the Syrian people need the help of the British government more than ever, expressing thanks to London’s position on the necessity of not impunity after 10 years of “conflict”.
The letter was signed by: “Former British MP Abrox Newmark, Ghanem Tayara, Muhammad Antabli, Ayman Abdel Nour, Vice Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Conservative Party, Benedict Rogers, Amina Khoulani, and others.
