The Assad regime announces the closure of the ballot boxes at its embassies
Pro-Assad media outlets said: “Ballot boxes were closed in a number of the regime’s embassies in several Arab and foreign countries, and voter counting operations began in the presidential elections.”
The Assad regime’s SANA agency quoted the regime’s ambassador in Cuba, Idris Mia, as saying: “The ballot boxes have been closed for the presidential elections in Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, South Africa, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Serbia, Switzerland, Cuba and the Czech Republic, according to local time.”
The embassies of the Assad regime opened their doors in Australia, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Oman, Iran, Armenia, Abu Dhabi and Lebanon to vote for the presidency of the republic, while three candidates are competing in the election stage, Bashar al-Assad, the head of the regime, the lawyer Mahmoud Mari, and Abdullah Sallum Sallum.
Earlier, several Syrian opposition political blocs issued a statement, in which they rejected the presidential elections in Syria, describing them as “theatrical,” considering them a violation of the Geneva 1 statement and the relevant international resolutions, foremost of which is Resolution 2254.
