The “tribes’ council” rejects the “presidential elections” and calls for Bashar al-Assad to be held accountable
The Council of Syrian Tribes and Clans announced, during the conference held by the tribes in the northern countryside of Aleppo, yesterday, Monday, its absolute rejection of the play of “presidential elections” in Syria, which will be established by the Assad regime.
The Syrian Tribes and Tribes Council called on the international community to refer Bashar al-Assad to the International Criminal Court, to receive the penalty for the atrocities he committed against the Syrian people.
The conference was held in the presence of sheikhs and representatives of the Syrian tribes, leaders of the Syrian National Army, the civil and military police, the heads of the National Coalition, the Syrian Interim Government, and a delegation from the Syrian Negotiation Commission, in addition to representatives of local councils and civil society organizations.
In its closing statement, the conference affirmed that “the Assad regime has no right to conduct any elections before enacting a new constitution and under full UN supervision of elections in a safe and neutral environment, in accordance with Security Council resolutions, headed by 2118 and 2254.”
In its statement, the conference also denounced “the Syrian Democratic Forces and their practices east and west of the Euphrates and their endeavor to create a perverse entity that fulfills their sick illusions of a separatist state that poses a threat to the national security in Syria and its neighbors.
It warned, “of the effects of forced displacement, forced conscription, changing educational curricula and demographic change processes, and denouncing the targeting of tribal symbols and clans east of the Euphrates.
The Council condemned “Iran’s criminality in Syria and its relentless pursuit of demographic changes throughout the country, and spread Shiism in Sunni areas, especially in Deir Ezzor and the eastern region, all the way to the Iraqi borders.”
The council expressed “its anger at ISIS’s continued perpetration of abuse against the Syrian people, and its transformation into play by international parties seeking to perpetuate chaos in Syria.”
The Syrian Tribes and Tribes Council was established in December 2018, and 150 tribes and clans joined the Supreme Council of Syrian Tribes and Clans opposing the Assad regime, during a general conference held in the village of Sjo near the city of Azaz in the northern countryside of Aleppo, in the presence of a delegation from the National Coalition headed by the head of the coalition, Abdul Rahman Mustafa.
