The European Union provides 3 billion euros to support Syrians in Turkey
The European Union announced that it will allocate 3 billion euros to support Syrians in Turkey until 2024.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said during a press conference in the Belgian capital, Brussels: “The summit of EU leaders discussed relations with Turkey and the situation of Syrian refugees.”
“We have made it clear that we will continue to support Turkey, which hosts millions of Syrian refugees, and other partners in the region such as Jordan and Lebanon,” Der Line added.
Der Leyen stressed that the largest part of the refugee burden falls on the region, and it is in the common interest of Europe to protect refugees and support their hosts, noting that the European Union has provided and will continue to provide its assistance in this framework.
Der Line indicated, “We plan to allocate an additional 3 billion euros until 2024 to support refugees in Turkey,” stressing that this money will be entirely allocated from the European Union budget and will be used for social and economic support for refugees, as this support does not fall within the item of urgent aid, because Syrians live They have been in this area for years and they need a perspective for the years to come.
Der Line indicated that the European Union will support Turkey in the issue of migration management on its eastern borders, also announcing that the European Commission will provide 2.2 billion euros to Syrians in Jordan and Lebanon until 2024.
It is noteworthy that Turkey hosts 3.6 million Syrian refugees, while Lebanon hosts approximately 1.5 million, and the number of refugees in Jordan is estimated at 1,390,000.
