WFP: 90% of Syrian families follow negative coping methods to survive
The World Food Program of the United Nations General Assembly stated that nearly 90% of Syrian families follow negative coping strategies and methods to survive.
The UN program added that the Syrians resort to reducing the amount of food they eat, in addition to buying small quantities of what they need, pointing out that the Syrians follow the method of borrowing, that is, borrowing to buy their basic needs.
The World Food Program’s speech came just a month after a tweet it published, in which it indicated that 84% of families in Syria lost their savings after nearly a decade of conflict, adding that 4.8 million Syrians depend on food aid from the World Food Program to survive.
The spokeswoman for the World Food Program, Elizabeth Byers, of the United Nations, had warned earlier, of an unprecedented food crisis in Syria, due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.
The United Nations organizations are constantly issuing warnings about the humanitarian situation in Syria, coinciding with the upcoming session of the Security Council this July to discuss the issue of entering humanitarian aid into Syria through border crossings.
This session will decide the method of entering aid, in light of fears that a Russian “veto” will change its course and place it in the hands of the Assad regime, after it was arriving through the “Bab al-Hawa” crossing on the Turkish border, northwest Syria.
