Children’s Rights Organization warns of escalation of violence in northern Syria
“Save the Children” organization said that 10 children were killed and six others wounded, as a result of 11 separate attacks in northwestern Syria, since the beginning of last June
The organization added: “The escalation of violence constitutes a continuous violation of the ceasefire that was agreed upon in northwest Syria in March of last year.”
She emphasized that the recent wave of violence in northwest Syria targeted at least three schools and one hospital.
“The loss of life in this escalating violence has been devastating, and our hearts are saddened by the news of the killing of one of our partner nurses (Violet), along with three of his four children, in attacks by Assad regime forces,” said Sonia Koch, Save the Children’s Syria director
Russia, last Saturday.
“This war is costing the children and youth of Syria their future while they continue to bear the brunt of a seemingly endless conflict,” she noted, noting the need for immediate and full commitment to the ceasefire agreed last year by all parties concerned, in order to protect children and civilians.
It also stressed the need to put an end to the grave violations committed against innocent people.
She noted that the size of the needs of children in northwest Syria was not this large before, warning that the ongoing violations of the ceasefire threaten their access to humanitarian assistance, including education, safe shelter and basic services.
