The Russian Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Special Envoy discuss the situation in Syria
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin had a telephone conversation with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Syria, Geir Pedersen, to discuss the situation in Syria in detail and the issue of humanitarian aid.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Vershinin discussed with Pedersen the tasks of strengthening the political solution process led and implemented by the Syrians themselves.
In the statement, Vershinin pointed to “the importance of conducting an objective assessment of the situation in various regions of Syria, and of continuing to provide depoliticized humanitarian assistance, in strict accordance with the United Nations mandate stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.”
It is worth noting that at the end of July, the Russian Foreign Ministry discussed the latest developments of the Syrian issue with the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, in the Russian capital, Moscow, and activating international efforts to settle the Syrian crisis politically, stressing the need to continue the work of the Constitutional Committee.
