Before Erdogan and Putin’s meeting.. an escalation in Russian tone against Idlib
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov escalated the Russian tone against Idlib, in anticipation of the meeting between the Turkish and Russian presidents in Sochi on September 29.
On the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, Lavrov claimed in a press conference held in New York yesterday, Saturday, that “Russia is using military force in Syria against terrorists based on a Security Council resolution.”
He said: ” We use force in northwestern Syria based on UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254, stipulating a resolute fight against terrorism in Syria.”
In a new escalation of tone, Lavrov stated that “Russia will not tolerate the attacks launched by terrorists” from the de-escalation zone in Idlib against the Russian and Assad regime forces.
It should be noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will head to Russia on September 29 to discuss the Idlib file and de-escalation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
