The Civil Defense condemns undermining its supportive role of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Syria
The Syrian Civil Defense Organization (White Helmets) condemned the undermining of its supportive role for the efforts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Syria, which is backed by a lot of evidence and facts on the attacks committed inside Syrian territory.
The organization confirmed that, during the war years, it responded to more than 50 chemical attacks, and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons handed over more than 100 samples as evidence condemning the regime, in addition to the testimonies of its volunteers.
And it considered, that the refusal of its participation with non-governmental organizations in the conference, “a purely political decision that is not based on any legal framework and professional basis, and is inconsistent with the values and vision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons,” denouncing Russia’s role in providing political, diplomatic and media cover for the regime, with the aim of obliterating the evidence against it. .
The organization welcomed, in a statement submitted by Canada, with the participation of 52 member states of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, condemning some countries’ obstruction of the participation of non-governmental organizations, including the “White Helmets”, in the annual conference of member states.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons had previously announced during a conference of member states that the Assad regime had not cooperated with it, by not disclosing its entire stockpile of chemical weapons, and not allowing the organization’s inspectors to enter Syria.
The head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Fernando Arias, said: “So far, the Assad regime has not completed any of the procedures for disposing of chemical weapons, and its reports on this are still inaccurate and incomplete.”
