Dujarric: Over 2.4 million Syrians benefit from humanitarian aid
Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed that there are more than 2.4 million Syrians benefit monthly from humanitarian aid through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.
Dujarric said in a press conference held at the permanent headquarters of the International Organization in New York: “United Nations operations continue across the border from Turkey to Syria, reaching 2.4 million people every month in northwest Syria.”
Dujarric added that 1000 trucks carrying food and healthy supplies passed through Bab al-Hawa crossing into northern Syria.
He also added: “Approximately 4.1 million men, women and children need humanitarian aid in northwestern Syria this year, compared to 3.4 million people last year.”
The current extraordinary mandate of the United Nations Security Council to deliver humanitarian aid through the last remaining border crossing into northwest Syria expires on July 10.
On 26 June, the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Syria called for the renewal of the cross-border aid delivery mechanism, which expires on July 10.
