Turkish Defense Minister confirms his country’s determination to carry out the military operation in northern Syria
Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that his country will neither cancel nor delay the military operation which it is planning to carry out against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria.
The Turkish minister made it clear his country’s position on the military operation, and Turkey refused to argue about it or listen to any talk to discourage it.
He added in an interview during the bilateral meetings that held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid, the avoidance or postponement of the planned military operation in northern Syria had not been addressed. He continued we are determined to do so in the future. Thank God, we are able to do that too.”
Akar confirmed that “plans have been made related to everything that needs to be done, the procedures related to the operation and the mechanism for its implementation.”
On the possibility of a conflict with the United States in Syria, Akar said: Turkey does not seek to clash with the United States, and is taking measures to reduce the risks of any conflict as much as possible. He pointed out to his country’s commitment to the military operation.
For weeks, Turkey has confirmed through its senior officials its determination to carry out a new military operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces in northern Syria, due to not keeping the promises the United States and Russia made to keep the Syrian Democratic Forces 30 kilometers away from the border.
