Russia seeks to hold a meeting between Bashar al-Assad and the Turkish President in Uzbekistan
The Russian president Vladimir Putin seeks to hold a meeting between the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoghan and Bashar al-Assad during an upcoming meeting of the heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in mid-September in the Uzbekistani capital of Samarkand, Media outlets close to Tehran said yesterday.
Putin asked both Erdoghan and Bashar al-Assad to attend the summit to hold a possible meeting between the two parties on the sidelines of the summit, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
Tasnim Agency stated that if the Opposition Patriotic Party’s visit to Damascus headed by Doğu Perinçek was “positive” to Ankara and Damascus the Turkish president and Bashar al-Assad will probably meet on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Uzbekistan.
Assad regime’s foreign minister Faisal al-Makdad is set to officially visit Russia Today to meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Al-Makdad will discuss with Lavrov the bilateral relations and the files related to Syria field developments.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had confirmed in previous statements that Putin had suggested to him during the last Sochi summit to hold a telephone conversation with Bashar al-Assad.
