Amir of Qatar: The international community has failed to hold Assad regime accountable for oppressing its people and displacing millions of them in Syria
The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said at the UN General Assembly: “The international community has failed to hold a president accountable for oppressing his people, committing massacres against them, and displacing the people.”
He added, “The United Nations should not accept to sum up the political process in Syria in the so-called constitutional committee.”
Sheikh Tamim pointed out that some of them are seeking to turn the page of the Syrian people’s tragedy and ignore their great sacrifices without a solution that achieves their aspirations and the unity of their country.
The Amir of Qatar confirmed that the international community, especially the European Union, should not have allowed this to happen, and we had to be serious and stop the problem from its source, whether in Syria or Libya.
The State of Qatar also stressed, at the end of last June, the importance of accountability for all those responsible for human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria, and for bringing them to international criminal justice.
It is noteworthy that the meetings of the UN General Assembly started on Tuesday at the UN Headquarters in New York with the participation of more than 150 heads of state and government in these sessions.
